Good to Know
A few things to know before you meet us in Big Sky.
We’ll have room blocks at three properties in Big Sky:
- One&Only Moonlight Basin
- The Summit Hotel
- The Huntley Lodge
We strongly encourage everyone to stay at one of these three properties so we can coordinate transportation throughout the weekend.
We’re still finalizing the room blocks and should have booking links, rates, and details to share soon!
We recommend flying into Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN).
There are plenty of direct flights from major cities, and Big Sky is about an hour from the airport.
Uber and rideshare can be unreliable once you get outside Bozeman. We’ll share recommendations for airport shuttles and private car services as we get closer.
Renting a car is also a great option if you want to explore Bozeman, Yellowstone, or the surrounding area while you’re here.
Yes. We’ll be coordinating transportation between our recommended hotels and the wedding events.
We strongly recommend using the transportation we provide rather than driving yourself to and from the wedding activities.
Big Sky has winding mountain roads, and Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare services are extremely limited or nonexistent in many areas.
We want everyone to have fun, get home safely, and not have to think about driving.
Pickup locations and timing will be shared closer to the weekend.
September in Big Sky can be beautiful during the day and chilly very quickly once the sun goes down. Mountain weather changes constantly, so plan for layers both nights.
Friday
Western Semi-Formal
Friday at Riverhouse is our more relaxed night with a little Western personality.
Think cocktail or midi dresses, jumpsuits, sets, sport coats, tailored trousers, boots, suede, leather, and fun Western details.
Semi-formal, not casual.
Cowboy boots and a little Western flair are very welcome. Everyday jeans, flannels, shorts, and casual BBQ attire are not.
Think Montana cocktail party, not backyard barbecue.
Saturday
Alpine Chic
Cocktail attire, mountain setting.
Think a stylish city cocktail wedding, just in the mountains.
Women: Cocktail or midi dresses, jumpsuits, or dressy separates.
Men: Suits or sport coats with trousers. Ties are optional.
We want everyone dressed up and looking great, but this is not black tie, not Western-themed, and not casual. Color, texture, and personality are encouraged.
The ceremony will be outside at Moonlight Basin, and temperatures can change quickly once the sun goes down, so bring a warm layer for the evening.
Basically: dress for a great cocktail party, then remember you’re at 7,000 feet in Montana.
Early September is usually beautiful in Big Sky, but Montana mountain weather is unpredictable.
Days can be sunny and comfortable in the 60s, while mornings and evenings can drop into the 30s and 40s. It can feel warm in the sun and cold almost immediately once the sun goes behind the mountains.
Rain is possible, temperatures can change quickly, and an early dusting of snow in the mountains is never completely out of the question.
Friday’s Welcome Party will include time outdoors, with the main celebration under a tent.
Saturday’s ceremony will also be outdoors, with the party afterward inside.
Layers are your friend.
We’ll share the actual weekend forecast as we get closer.
We love your kiddos, but our wedding weekend events will be adults only. No babies or children, please.

Bozeman: Eat & Drink
Feed Café
One of our go-to breakfast and lunch spots.

The bakery stop. Go early, get pastries, and thank us later.

One of our favorite coffee spots, with locations near Wild Crumb and on Main Street.
Treeline Coffee Roasters
Great coffee and an easy place to spend a slow morning downtown.
Best Burger
An old-school Montana burger stop in Four Corners. Perfect to hit before heading down toward Big Sky.
Revelry
A great downtown option for dinner, drinks, or a night out in Bozeman.
Bozeman Hot Springs
Indoor and outdoor mineral pools just outside town. Great after a flight, hike, or long weekend.

And honestly, just walk Main Street. There are lots of small shops, galleries, bars, restaurants, and places worth wandering into.
Big Sky: Get Outside
A quick note before you head out: hiking around Big Sky is real mountain hiking. Trails can be steep, at elevation, and harder than they may look online. These are just our personal recommendations, not organized wedding activities, so please check current conditions, know your own ability, and decide what feels right for you.
Beehive Basin
One of the classic Big Sky hikes, with huge mountain views and an alpine lake at the top. Beautiful, but definitely a real hike with elevation.
Lava Lake
A beautiful hike through Gallatin Canyon to an alpine lake. A longer and more strenuous option if you want a proper Montana hike.
Head Up the Mountain
Spend some time at Big Sky Resort and head up the mountain for the views. If Kirkcliff is running and accessible during the weekend, it’s a great way to get higher up without committing to a full hike.
Swim in the Gallatin
If September gives us a warm day, find a safe spot along the Gallatin and jump in. It will be freezing. That is part of the experience.
Go Fly Fishing
Spend a morning or afternoon on the Gallatin with a local guide. No experience necessary.
Rent UTVs and head up Buck Ridge
Rent side-by-sides and explore the mountains another way.
Mountain weather, trail conditions, river conditions, and accessibility can change quickly, so please check current conditions and use your own judgment before heading out.

Make a Day of It
West Yellowstone & Yellowstone National Park
If you have an extra day, drive south through Gallatin Canyon to West Yellowstone.
The drive itself is beautiful, and from there you can head into Yellowstone National Park. If you’ve never been, it is absolutely worth adding an extra day to the trip.
We’ll keep adding our favorite hikes, restaurants, bars, shops, and other Montana recommendations as we get closer.
